Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about WebRTC streaming, device setup, privacy, and troubleshooting.
No, absolutely not. Baby Zzz's uses direct Peer-to-Peer (P2P) WebRTC connections with DTLS-SRTP encryption. Our servers only facilitate the initial socket handshake (signaling); live video and audio are never recorded or stored, and are not accessible to us or any third parties. The only image we keep is an optional thumbnail: when a camera stops streaming, a still of its last frame is saved for your camera list. The account owner can turn thumbnails off in Settings, which also deletes the saved ones.
Baby Zzz's runs on Android phones and tablets with Android 7.0+ (Android 7.0 or newer), installed from Google Play. Use one device as the nursery camera and another as your monitor, for example an old Android tablet in the nursery and your everyday Android phone. You can also add the Wi‑Fi cameras already in your home (ONVIF and TP-Link Tapo), and Baby Zzz's Desktop for Mac and Windows shares them away from home. An app for iPhone and iPad (iOS 15 or newer) is coming soon.
Yes, if it supports ONVIF, as TP-Link Tapo and many other brands do. Add it in the Cameras tab and watch it next to your phone cameras: live video and sound, pan, tilt and zoom, and, on cameras with a speaker, hold to talk and sleep sounds (Tapo cameras need your TP-Link account password for that). The video goes straight from the camera to your phone over your Wi‑Fi, and the camera's password stays on your devices. Your phone must be on the camera's network; away from home, Baby Zzz's Desktop on a computer at home shares the camera with you (Premium). Step by step: our Wi‑Fi camera guide.
No. While Baby Zzz's will establish a direct local Wi-Fi connection when both devices are home, it also works when you are away on cellular data (4G/5G) or outside Wi-Fi networks. Some networks (some mobile data and strict Wi-Fi networks) block direct connections. On those, Premium connects your devices through our encrypted relay, which forwards your stream without being able to decrypt it; on the free plan, switch one of the devices to another network, such as home Wi-Fi.
Yes! In Settings, add a family member by entering their email address, and we email them a signed invitation link. Once they accept, they watch with their own account, and several parent devices can view the nursery camera at the same time. Free: you plus 1 family member (2 people). Premium: you plus up to 5 family members (6 people).
Yes. While a phone streams as a camera, it listens for crying and, if you want, other noise, and the family members who turned alerts on get a notification, even when their app is closed. Crying alerts are on by default. In Settings → Baby alerts choose for each camera whether crying is an Alarm (rings even when your phone is on silent or in Do Not Disturb), a Notification or Off, and whether any noise alerts you too; every alert has Snooze 30 min. The nursery phone sets its own sensitivity under Settings → This phone as a camera. The sound is analysed on the nursery phone itself: only the alert leaves it, never the sound. Alerts depend on your devices, their settings and the network, and can be missed: they never replace an adult's supervision.
No. While you watch, the nursery's sound keeps playing with the screen off or while you use another app, and when you leave the app the video can stay in a picture-in-picture window (up to 4 cameras). Crying alerts reach your phone even when the app is closed. If you want the video on screen all night, keep the parent device plugged in and set a longer screen timeout in your phone's display settings (on Android: Settings → Display → Screen timeout); Baby Zzz's does not change your screen timeout. The nursery phone keeps its own screen on while it streams.
That is audio feedback, not a fault. When the parent device is near the nursery camera, the camera's microphone picks up the baby's sound coming out of the parent device's speaker and sends it back again, so it loops and gets louder: an echo, or a high-pitched squeal. It is the same thing that happens when a microphone is held next to a speaker. It stops as soon as the devices are in different rooms, which is how a baby monitor is meant to be used. While testing or setting up with both devices in the same room, tap the speaker button on the camera's tile on the parent device to mute it, or turn the parent device's volume down. Keep the microphone button (talk to your baby) off unless you are speaking: with both devices in one room it feeds back the same way.
Baby Zzz's is free to download and use, with ads. The free plan includes live video and audio monitoring over direct connections, for you plus 1 family member (2 people). The optional Premium subscription ($1.99 a month or $17.99 a year in the US; Google Play shows the price in your currency) removes the ads for you and everyone you invite, covers you plus up to 5 family members (6 people), lets you stream with an ad blocker on, adds our encrypted relay for networks that block direct connections, and lets you watch your Wi‑Fi cameras away from home through Baby Zzz's Desktop. Crying alerts, sleep sounds and Wi‑Fi cameras at home are free for everyone. You subscribe in the phone app under Settings (Baby Zzz's Desktop sells nothing: your account's Premium applies there too), and cancel at any time in Google Play.
You have complete control over your data. You can delete your account directly inside the app (Profile → Settings → Delete Account) or request deletion via our Data & Account Deletion Page. Deleting your account immediately erases your profile, camera registrations, and authorization tokens. It does not cancel a Google Play subscription: cancel it first in Google Play (Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Baby Zzz's → Cancel subscription). Deleting your account does not refund remaining time.
The app, its notifications and the sign-in pages are in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Romanian, Hungarian, Turkish, Russian and Ukrainian. The app starts in your phone's language, you can change it in Settings → Language, and alerts arrive in the language your app uses. The Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are translated into these languages too; if a translation differs, the English version prevails.
No. Baby Zzz's is designed as an informational assistance tool for parents and guardians. It is not a medical device, is not intended to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and must never replace responsible adult physical supervision.
